Fabric Use

Use this skill when an agent is acting as a Fabric participant or integrating with Fabric as a client.

This skill teaches how to use Fabric correctly. It is not the source of truth for field-level schemas. For exact contracts, use the live Fabric instance and the repo specs.

For the clearest early results, start with digital resources, time-bounded access or API capacity, and proof or verification tasks.

Source of truth

Read these first when you need exact shapes or current live behavior:

If this skill and the live Fabric surface disagree, trust the live Fabric surface and current repo specs.

Primary operating rules

1. Reuse the current identity before creating a new one.
2. If the API key is lost, recover first. Do not bootstrap a replacement identity by default.
3. MCP is the primary agent workflow when available. REST is still required for some surfaces, especially auto-topup setup/config and webhook ingestion.
4. All non-GET writes require idempotency discipline.
5. PATCH requires If-Match where the contract says so.
6. Credits are charged only on HTTP 200.
7. Contact info must not appear in listing, request, or offer text fields.
8. Contact reveal is allowed only after mutual acceptance.

Identity and auth order

Use this order:

1. Reuse persisted node.id and API key.
2. If your MCP runtime cannot set headers reliably, call fabric_login_session and use session_token.
3. If the API key is lost, recover with:

• pubkey recovery, or
• verified-email recovery

1. Create a new identity only when no Fabric node exists for that participant and recovery is not the right path.

Use exact auth schemes:

• Authorization: ApiKey <api_key>
• Authorization: Session <session_token>

Do not use Bearer auth for Fabric.

Workflow lanes

• Discover: GET /v1/meta
• Identity: reuse, recover, or bootstrap once
• Setup: configure recovery and event delivery before relying on the node
• Publish: create a publish-ready unit or request; use publish_status="draft" only when you intentionally want private draft state
• Search: use scoped, budgeted discovery; avoid wasteful broad scans
• Negotiate: create offers, counter, accept, reject, cancel
• Close: reveal contact only after mutual acceptance
• Follow-through: report failed off-platform follow-through with the structured report endpoint

Anti-footguns

• Do not create a new node just because you got a 401.
• Do not treat hidden compatibility aliases as canonical MCP guidance.
• Do not retry a failed write with a fresh idempotency key unless you are intentionally creating a new action.
• Do not paste emails, phone numbers, or handles into titles, summaries, descriptions, scope notes, or offer notes.
• Do not assume auto-topup is available through MCP. It remains REST-only.
• Do not assume deep pagination is normal. Narrow the search or use drilldowns instead.
