Ingest Emails

Pull emails from the configured IMAP server and add them to the search index.

Workflow

Call the ingest_emails MCP tool with optional filters from $ARGUMENTS:

Mailbox folder (default: INBOX)
Date range (e.g., "since:2024-01-01")
Sender filter

Report results:

Number of emails fetched
Number of emails with attachments (and attachment types)
Number of chunks created (email bodies + attachments)
Any errors

Configuration

IMAP credentials are stored in macOS Keychain (service: LEGAL_RAG_IMAP)
Set up with: security add-generic-password -a $USER -s LEGAL_RAG_IMAP_HOST -w "imap.gmail.com"
Email: security add-generic-password -a $USER -s LEGAL_RAG_IMAP_USER -w "[email protected]"
Password: security add-generic-password -a $USER -s LEGAL_RAG_IMAP_PASS -w "app-password-here"

Notes

Attachments (PDF/DOCX) are parsed and indexed alongside the email body
Email metadata (from, to, date, subject) is stored as searchable metadata
Incremental: only fetches emails newer than the last ingestion run
